Volunteer
It is an honor and privilege to work toward Poplar Grove’s mission of conservation, education, and preservation. We are a small but thrifty staff, dependent on the talents of many — and our needs are varied, so you can find a place to fit. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the history of this former plantation site, the Foy family who owned it from 1795–1971, and the many Black families enslaved here and, later, tenant-farming here.
Gardens
The Pender County Master Gardeners help maintain several gardens and a greenhouse, and Poplar Grove has its own Gardening Club. See the PG Gardening Club Brochure for more.
Stables
Many people love the animals and want to help in the Stables — but this is not an opportunity to play with them. It is physically demanding, dusty work (one horse produces ~40 lbs of manure a day, and we have four rescue horses, a pony, and a donkey!). If you’re up for this hands-on role, complete the Volunteer Form; if selected, you must submit a notarized Stables Addendum. Questions: thestablesPG@gmail.com.
